I'm not big on gadgets for the kitchen, especially the goofy ones like cake saws, square hard boiled egg devices or the albeit cute hot dog spiral cutter. So many new twists on what a simple knife can do, like pizza scissors, wind up in a drawer, maybe never to be used again.

But wait---I have listed some gadget that actually are time savers for specific kitchen tasks. Here you will find a really great vegetable peeler, a microplane, a set of measuring spoons and egg slicers, all of very good quality and in some cases, "Must Have" items to make your cooking easier and fun. You'll be saying, "Why didn't I buy this sooner", especially if you decide to buy the avocado slicer or lemon press for extracting the last bit of juice from a wedge of lemon.

Several national chain stores have a wall displaying gadgets in their kitchen departments. There is everything from egg shaped kitchen timers to shrimp deveining tools and pineapple corers to cheese cutters. Buy them if you will, or if you have the time, learn how to use a knife to cut a pineapple!
